Darker Ducati

Ducati has long offered shiny black alternatives to their trademark red bikes. Now Ducative goes even darker.

Ducati bikes are beautiful. All of them. The near-naked Ducatis with exposed lattice frames and v-twin engines are close to being the condensed essence of road motorcycles.

While most people agree that Ducatis, like Ferraris, are red I have always preferred their black counterparts which look a bit less beach-poser and more raw. While the shiny black bikes did look a tad meaner than the classic red ones I am delighted to report that for 2010 Ducati will offer the bikes even blacker. In stead of the standard shiny black a special formulated matte black, that Ducati calls Racing Black, will be available for some of the 2010 range. The paint is so matte that is has been described as looking into a black hole.

Take the case of the 848 which in red can look just a bit too much like the Japanese counterparts. Too bright, too plasticy and too glossy. In the matte black finish it gains some welcome rawness, that suits the torquey engine with the lovely v-twin growl.

Head over to your local Ducati dealer now to order one.
