Jens Laugesen´s Favourite Black

My favourite collection of the 12 collections I did as an independent designer in London, is the one I did for AW0910, which is the third part of the INTERIØR trilogy taking the theme of internal and external concepts and develops them through an analogy with the internal and external structuring of classical tailoring.

INTERIØR 03 aimed to integrate concept with luxury, with a new idea of fusing of old and new, hard edges and soft in order to create a personal silhouette, which reference history and the traditions of couture and tailoring in a modern context.

The silhouette focussed on the shoulder, with extended shoulders pads, that were key in the building of a stronger silhouette including sloping strong shoulders which highlights the feminine silhouette.

Shoulder shaping were worked and reworked blurring lines between functionality and decoration, showcasing strong angular cutting, inspired in part by the angular works of architect Zaha Hadid.

In this last collection I managed to extend the signature blacks with a new palette of deep military like royal blues, that were especially showcased in a lineup "hybrid" garments characterizing a new futuristic silhouette, blending fragments of 50’s ball gown straps, with traditional lines of traditional menswear tailoring.

I feel that this last collection took the play on gender and femininity in a new direction, fusing the love I have of traditional craftsmanship since working in Paris Haute Couture in the 90'ies, with the personal design aesthetic I was able to develop creatively during my 6 active years in London fashion Week.
