Using only black is designer Alexander Groover’s signature. The American designer made her debut on the catwalk at London Fashion Week with her AW09 collection.
Alexander Groover is originally from California, but moved to London in order to promote her designs internatioanally. She is educated at Central St. Martins and Rhode Island Scool of Design and in the studios of Alexander McQueen and Zandra Rhodes.
She launched her own company in 2008 and her Black Label collection was created to fulfill her need for expression through sculptural and textural manipulations of fabric. She sees colour as a distraction from her focus on the silhouette and sculptural shape making. An absence of colour also enhances the combination of textures in the fabric choices. Structured materials such as felted wool and knitted jersey are mixed with contrasting crepeback satin; often worked inside out to benefit from its matt and shiny qualities.
The talented designer is one to watch for. She might even be The new Black. SLAIIB will follow up on her future collections.
