Richard Avedon revolutionized fashion photography already from the beginning of his career in the forties in New York. He portrayed models in motion, smiling, laughing and in action redefining the traditional static making of fashion photography. He Photographed mainly in black and white which we adore here at SLAIIB.
By the 1950ies Avedon was already the most imitated fashion photographer and continues to influence photographers all over the world today. In addition to his continuing fashion work he expanded into the realm of fine art as he not only captured his models but also interpreted them as individuals, which is significant for his artwork and portraits.
His work is until September 2009 exhibited at the International Center for Photography, New York in continuation of the publication of the new book, Avedon Fashion 1944-2000. The exhibition features more than 200 works by Richard Avedon, spanning his entire career, and will include vintage prints, contact sheets, magazine layouts, and archival mater.
