Monochrome, asymmetry and mixed materials are keywords in the Jean//Phillip SS2010 collection.
Even if this is only his fourth collection with his own label Jean-phillip has established a recognisable look. And though there are elements that remind me some of my favourite labels, 5th Avenue Shoe Repair and Ann Hagen, he sticks to his thing and makes it his own. In his Spring/Summer 2010 collection he continues and builds on this. His trademark monochrome mix of wearable street style and couture details and tailoring is evident throughout.
His wintry monochrome colour palette of blacks, greys and whites is a welcome relief after the abundance of colours in many other brands´ collections this season.
But not satisfied with a simple colour palette Jean-phillip plays with the materials to create variation both in textures but also in the silhouette. The tight fitting inner silhouette is blurred by asymmetric long flowing jackets, cardigans and tops in shear and translucent materials. There is a great variation in materials; washed leather sleeves, black leather and crumbled linen buttonless blazers, black synthetic sheer shiny tops, tech windbreaker fabric tops.
Jean-philip used asymmetry throughout the collection in asymmetrically buttoned long cardigans and vests and cropped hooded windbreaker tops with zippers that flowed from one shoulder to the opposite hip.
With enough details and surprises to make it interesting while still keeping it wearable the Jean//Phillip SS2010 may be headed for commercial success.
