Black line

For the last 10.000 years, the black eyeliner has highlighting eyes all over the world - as an elegant and discreet emphasis or as a lifting wonderbra for the eyes. When I was asked to write a beauty article for SLAIIB I knew I had to write about the black eyeliner. As a professional make-up artist I love and depend it.

The black Eyeliner is sexy, historical, religious, classical, Asian, gothic, grunge, raw, punk and much more. Neither gender nor the culture has a patent on it. It is the way that it is used that creates the style. The look can be completly different depending on the thickness, placement, sway, decay and edge of the line.

Celebrity eyeliners

The black eyeliner is never out of fashion. It is used by both men and women on the catwalk and the musical scene. Amy Winehouse wears an exaggerated version of the 1960'ies style. Angelina Jolie wears an enlarged simple classic eyeliner style which gives her eyes a discreet lift. The Danish music producer Thomas Troelsen uses eyeliner to mark his eyes. Marilyn Manson uses it to stage himself with a dramatic look.

On the catwalk

This season eyeliner is very visible on the catwalk in different styles and shapes. YSL uses the eyeliner in a classic and elegant way, while Karl Lagerfeld has chosen the hard and tight line around the eyes that looks almost militaristic.

The black eyeliner is here to stay in all forms and individual shapes. So go get yourself the black pen and create your own look.

My own favorite is Glide & Define from Max Factor which is deep black and easy to work with.
