Sam Worthington’s Black Eyewear at the Oscars 2010

Sam Worthington – leading actor in the blockbuster Avatar – wore cool black glasses by Danish design company Orgreen at the Oscars 2010.

Eyewear company, Orgreen is known for its retro and yet razorblade sharp frames. Behind the company are three hip guys from the Danish underground scene – Henrik Orgreen, Gregers Fastrup and Tobias Wandrup. They never dreamt that eyewear should be their path in life and none of them have a formal training as opticians. They just had a lot of instinct and a lot of love for art and frames.

Ignoring conventions in lens frame design

The project of combining art and frames came up in a conversation under the summer sun more than a decade ago. The starting point was sunglasses. As Denmark does not have much of a summer the collection quickly got expanded into lens frames. The inspiration for the design is found in the classic American era, particularly with a 1950’s Corvette as a favourite. The aesthetic is ‘ignore conventions – nothing is sacred’.

Today Orgreen frames are found on celebrity noses as Sam Worthington,  Molly Sims and Melody Gardot.
