"The only thing on me which isnīt black is my soul" Ulla Puggaard about herself when asked on her love for black.
Shes all about black, the Danish illustrator and graphic designer Ulla puggaard. Her passion for the dark color is clearly a consistent theme in her life, as I have never seen her wearing anything but black. She even has a black boyfriend. The artist has been living and working in London since 1999. For the past five years she has been sharing the studios of Big Orange in Shoreditch with artists such as Paul Davis and Dan Williams.
Ulla uses block print and lino cuts mixed with hand rendering and most of the time finalizes her work digitally, she also has a passion for paint and screen print. Her work reflects this and can be applied to either hand or digital print, as it is both iconic and provocative. My main source of inspiration is the Scandinavian way of life. I was brought up surrounded by all the Danish design classics, Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner and Børge Mogensen. So Im passionate about striking forms and functionality. Says Ulla Puggaard to Elle Decoration when asked to portrait Jasper Morrison for the magazine.
Her artwork has given her clients like Burberry, Comme de Garcons and Topshop and has been featured on several exhibitions. I have chosen a few illustrations, in black off course!
